In a little over a month Neil Young and Crazy Horse will release their new LP Americana, their first album together since Broken Arrow, released back in 1996. The songs on the album include reworked American classics such as “She’ll be Comin’ ‘Round the Mountain,” “This Land is Your Land,” and “God Save the Queen.”
Neil Young told Rolling Stone last month at the Slamdance Film Festival that “[a] very young choir of children plays with Crazy Horse [on the album][.] […] They’re songs we all know from kindergarten, but Crazy Horse has rearranged them, and they now belong to us.”
In addition to the release, Neil Young has invited musicians from all over to cover other American classics and submit them to the Talenthouse by June 4 for a chance to win $1,000 and promotion across Neil Young’s social media sites. The winner will be announced on June 25, after people vote for their favorites.
We are digging the sound of Young and Crazy Horse’s first cut, “Oh Susannah,” and can’t wait to hear the rest of the redone 200 year-old tracks featured on Americana on June 5.
