It’s no surprise 3 out of 5 of the top liquors sold in the world are whiskey

Ahh, whiskey. How we love you in every way: with a splash of ginger, on ice (or you know, straight up with a shot of OJ). And in a recent trade report conducted by International Wine and Spirit Research, it seems lot of us feel the same way: 3 out of 5 top liquors sold in the United States are whiskey brands.

Unfortunately the dark liquor that we know and love didn’t make it to #1; Fernet-Branca, a bitters liquor manufactured in Argentina took the cake with a 21.6% growth rate. #2 and #3 however were two of our favorites, Jameson and Jim Beam (holler!), followed by Johnny Walker and Hennessy in the #4 and #5 spots.

As far as consumption goes, Smirnoff vodka remains #1, despite its only 3% increase in sales volume. But we’d like to think in time people will realize just how much more delightful tastes of barleys and ryes really are.
