OK, OK. We’ve all been dreaming about this since 1993 when Jurassic Park first came out. Well, sort of. An Aussie man (who is also known as a “potentially crazed mad scientist”) Clive Palmer said he refuses to give any specific details, but he wants to work with the scientist who cloned the Dolly sheep to—well it goes without saying—attempt cloning dinosaurs for a real life Jurassic Park sometime in the near future. So yes, real dinosaurs would be running around, with a good chance they could probably end up killing us all…
However, scientists are saying there’s no need to get too excited, because “[a]ssuming that a benevolent billionaire had magical, perfect dinosaur DNA, we don’t even have the living cells we’d need to birth a dinosaur,” Extreme Tech’s Ryan Whitman explains. “It’s not a question of technology, or of funding… We’re never going to return dinosaurs or any other ancient creature to Earth because their genes are long gone.”
Regardless, the idea is still up in the air. Palmer is busy working on a few other side projects too, one being a replica of the Titanic ship. No one is certain as to whether or not these ambitious aspirations will become a reality, but you have to admit both ideas sound undeniably cool.
